
Sierra Leone Set to Hosts Global Music Exchange with Jamaican Musicians
Telem Uncommon Sounds, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Washington DC and the Honorary Consul of Sierra Leone in Jamaica, is poised to orchestrate a global musicians exchange in Sierra Leone.
This exciting revelation surfaced during a press briefing meticulously organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs on Friday, November 10, 2023.
Dr. Kadijatu Grace Ahene Kamara, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, expressed profound gratitude to the Jamaican musicians who graced the occasion and underscored Sierra Leone's enthusiasm to showcase its diverse talents on the international stage. Dr. Kamara, in a passionate address, highlighted the significance of storytelling through music, advocating for collaborative efforts between Sierra Leonean and international artists, with a particular emphasis on engaging the youth.
Drawing intriguing parallels between Sierra Leone and Jamaica, Dr. Kamara passionately urged robust support for the upcoming Telem music festival, recognizing the transformative power of music to define and inspire. Mohamed Cozie Kosia, the Managing Partner, divulged that discussions surrounding the musical exchange and partnerships were initiated following the opening of Sierra Leone's consulate in Jamaica in February 2023. He stressed the paramount importance of discipline in the music industry and ongoing endeavors to enhance the sector's overall landscape.
Sierra Leone's Consul in Jamaica, Professor Rosalea Hamilton, echoed the prevailing theme of unity between Sierra Leoneans and Jamaicans, placing emphasis on the promising prospects for trade, development, and collaborative workshops. Noteworthy initiatives such as the women empowerment program were highlighted, emphasizing the significant investment in people as a valuable asset.
Telem Uncommon Sounds is set to welcome three Jamaican musicians to Sierra Leone as part of the Telem week 2023, a meticulously planned songwriting retreat and performance festival scheduled to unfold between November 10 and 19, 2023. The event stands as a testament to its goal of providing a platform for unconventional musicians to collaboratively create and perform original experimental music, fostering cultural exchange and collaboration on a global scale.
